To mark the birth of the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge 22nd July 2013

June Branscombe has been designing Royal Crown Derby for over 50 years and during that time has earned a reputation for heraldic and commemorative designs which is unsurpassed. The fact that Royal Crown Derby Commemoratives are considered to be the most desirable and prestigious is in no small way down to June's knowledge of heraldry, skill and ingenuity. The inspiration for the Royal Baby Collection comes from designs that June and her husband Brian Branscombe created for the Queen Mother in the 1970's... 
The design for the Royal Birth includes the downy feathers of a young cygnet, rose buds and a blue Adonis butterfly (shown also at rest with its pale yellow/brown underwings), all signifying new birth. At the centre of the design is the Princely Coronet of Prince William with the design neatly bound together with a blue ribbon, for the blessing of a little Prince! The ring of scallop shells which will frame the commemorative script is derived from a heraldic device to represent Prince William's mother Princess Diana.
