Moorcroft - William De Morgan Enchantment Vase 393/7 (LE25)

It is often said that one should be as shrewd as snakes, and innocent as doves. In true De Morgan style, this double tile panel holds on one panel a snake coiling around a cluster of doves who perch as if suspended on thin air and which are thoroughly unperturbed by its presence. On the other side, a rather shrewd mouse pokes his head out from behind the stem with eyes alert and ears erect. It seems he has also been given wings to allow him to escape any predators that may slither along the ground, allowing the open face of the bloom to give cheer to all in its traditional Persian palette: blue, turquoise, manganese purple, green, Indian red, and mustard yellow.
