Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate 2000 'Trimming The Tree'
Royal Copenhagen's Christmas plate from 2000 is entitled 'Trimming The Tree'. Sven Vestergaard let himself be inspired by the custom of decorating the Christmas tree.
It is a custom that originally came from Southern Germany, where in the 1600's people were already decorating with apples and other edible things. The plate depicts two young children busy decorating the family Christmas tree. Visible at the top of the tree is the Star of Bethlehem, which only becam a common Christmas decoration during the course of this century.
